Love, Moody Sweep the Women's B1G Weekly Awards

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field senior Kat Moody and sophomore Lia Love were named Big Ten Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Moody earned the Big Ten’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Love was named the Big Ten’s Track Athlete of the Week. The weekly honors were the first of their respective careers.

Moody, a Clive, Iowa, native opened the outdoor season with a career best and title-clinching discus toss of 56.47 meters (185’ 3”) at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida. Moody climbed to fourth all-time in the Iowa record books with the throw. She followed her discus performance with a 16.33 meter (53’ 7”) shot put toss – good for a second-place finish.

Love, a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, used a wind-aided time of 11.10 in the 100-meter dash, finishing as the top collegiate runner in the event. Her personal best time at the Hurricane Invitational currently leads the NCAA and the Big Ten.

Moody is Iowa’s first recipient of the Big Ten field award since Karina Joiner claimed the honor on May 12, 2021, and Love’s track honor is the first for Iowa since April 23, 2022, when teammate LaSarah Hargrove earned the award.

The Hawkeyes return to action this weekend, sending the distance group to the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina. The three-day meet begins Thursday and wraps up on Saturday.
