IOWA CITY, Iowa – Forty-five University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2022-23 Big Ten Winter Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from men’s basketball (5), women’s basketball (11), women’s gymnastics (9), women’s swimming and diving (6) and wrestling (14).
The 11 women’s basketball honorees are the most in school history, while men’s basketball’s five selections are tied for the second most in program history.
The Big Ten Conference recognized 1,000 winter sports student-athletes, including 67 men’s and 83 women’s basketball players, 59 men’s and 132 women’s gymnasts, 85 men’s hockey players, 141 men’s and 237 women’s swimmers and divers and 196 wrestlers. Twenty-two of these student-athletes have maintained unblemished cumulative GPAs, including Iowa’s Sharon Goodman (women’s basketball) and Cullan Schriever (wrestling).
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for winter sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
