GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Iowa junior Austin Kresley improved his 100-meter school record at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
Kresley shaved nine hundredths off of his previous best to finish fifth on the day in 10.10.
Junior Tionna Tobias improved her personal best in the 100 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.55 and improving her eighth-ranked time in Iowa’s record book. Fellow junior Myreanna Bebe ran a wind-aided personal best (12.96) in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries, crossing the finish in second to qualify for finals.
“At Florida, we continued our momentum from yesterday with another school record from Austin Kresley in the 100 meters, running a huge PR to finish fifth in a stellar field,” Iowa Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “Myreanna had a great meet today, running the best all-conditions mark in Iowa history in the 100 hurdles with a 12.96, and then came back with another great performance in the finals, running 13.03. Unfortunately, both marks were just over the legal wind of 2.0m/s.”
In California, the distance squad registered four personal bests and three additional season bests. Freshman Will Ryan (3:54.37), sophomore Yohana Yual (3:56.83) and junior Jack Pendergast (3:59.88) set personal bests in the men’s 1,500-meter open race, while junior Brooke McKee posted her collegiate best in the women’s 1,500-meter open with a 4:42.61.
“We had another terrific day today across the country with a lot of our distance runners doubling back to set PRs in the 1,500 meters,” Woody said. “Max Murphy led the men’s group just off his PR — another great performance by him this outdoor season.
“Overall, this was one of the best weekends in Iowa Track and Field history across the country at multiple meets. I’m very pleased with where we are as a team and I’m looking forward to seeing our athletes continue to progress these next few weeks leading into championship season.”
The Hawkeyes stay home for a week to host the Musco Twilight on April 22 at Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track in Coralville, Iowa.
