PITTSBURGH – The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a 307 in the third and final round at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday at Fox Chapel Golf Club. The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 909 (302-299-307) to place 11th in its final competition of the season.
A trio of Hawkeyes – freshman Shannyn Vogler, sophomore Paula Miranda and senior Jordan Amelon – cracked the top-40, with Vogler leading the pack, tying for 34th. The Moline, Illinois, native had one birdie during her final round en route to a 228 (76-73-79) total.
Miranda shot a 78 in her final round to close out her second Big Ten Championship in a tie for 40th place with a 229 (77-74-78). Amelon had a team-best 74 on Sunday with two birdies to move into a tie for 40th place. She shot rounds 75, 80 and 74.
Illinois won the Big Ten title with an 865, three shots ahead of Northwestern. The Fighting Illini’s Crystal Wang claimed medalist honors, shooting an impressive nine-under par 62. Wang’s 62 and 54-hole score of 201 are Big Ten Championship records.
