Hawkeyes Claim Five Titles in Finale

AMES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field finished the regular season with five event titles at the Iowa State Alumni Invitational on Saturday.

“Today was a great way to finish our regular season,” Iowa Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “We had a few personal bests and built some confidence for our athletes heading into the Big Ten Championships next weekend.”

The Hawkeyes took home three titles on the women’s side. Freshman Julia Pattison claimed the 100-meter race in 12.03, while sophomore Mytika Mayberry finished sixth in 12.41. Sophomore Brynley McDermott used a personal record 24.21 to win the 200-meter event. Pattison and Mayberry crossed the line in 24.61 and 26.25, respectively.

Senior Kat Moody was crowned the shot put champion, firing a 15.94 meter (52’ 3.75”) throw to earn the title. Senior Ianna Roach finished in sixth with a 14.32 meter (46’ 8.25”) shot put toss.

The Hawkeyes had solid showings from their hurdle unit as freshman Natalie Harris qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final and finished second in 13.63. In the women’s 400-meter hurdle competition, freshman Ellie Rickertsen took fourth with a 1:02.44.

Junior Damoy Allen and sophomore Chadrick Richards led the Hawkeye men with titles of their own. Allen finished in 10.51 to win the 100-meter dash, while Richards finished in first place in the 200 meters (21.28).

Senior Elijah Barnes threw a season’s best 18.26 meters (59’ 11”) in the men’s shot put to finish in second. Sean Smith placed fifth in the hammer throw with a 60.16-meter (197’ 4”) mark.

The Hawkeyes enter postseason competition with the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana, on May 12-14.
