Carter, Kresley and McClear Named April's Student-Athletes of the Month

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Nia Carter (softball), Austin Kresley (men’s track and field) and Mac McClear (men’s golf) were named April’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the University of Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced.

Carter, a senior outfielder from Rancho Cucamonga, California, posted a .492 batting average with a .521 on-base percentage and .540 slugging percentage in April. Carter, who started all 18 games in right field, registered 16 RBI’s, including a walk-off RBI single against Maryland on April 15. She hit .667 in the three-game series at Michigan State, highlighted by a career-high five RBI performance in the opener.

Kresley, a junior sprinter from Oakley, California, broke three school records in April. At the Texas Relays on April 1, Kresley set the 100-meter school record (10.19) and was part of the 4×100 relay team that broke the program record in 38.70. He finished the month at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona, with the new 200-meter school record, finishing in 20.32. Kresley leads the Big Ten in the 100-meters, 200-meters and the 4×100 relay team.

McClear, a senior from Hinsdale, Illinois, became Iowa’s first two-time Big Ten champion, topping the field as co-medalist through 36 holes at the Galloway (N.J.) National Golf Club April 28-30. He is the 16th men’s golfer to win multiple Big Ten Championships in conference history. McClear also became Iowa’s 16th individual medalist in Hawkeye Invitational history, shooting a season-best 10-under par (206) through 54 holes at Finkbine Golf Course April 14-15.
