McClear Named PING All-Midwest

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Mac McClear earned 2023 PING All-Midwest recognition on Saturday. McClear has earned the regional honor in three consecutive seasons. Twenty-five Division I golfers from around the Midwest were selected.

McClear previously received All-Big Ten Second Team recognition for his play this season. The Hawkeye veteran won three individual medalist honors at the Iowa Fall Classic (Oct. 17, 2022), Hawkeye Invitational (April 15, 2023) and Big Ten Championships (April 30, 2023). His five career collegiate victories are tops for an Iowa golfer since 1976.

McClear is Iowa’s first two-time Big Ten Champion and the 16th conference golfer to repeat as league medalist in Big Ten history. He led Iowa this season in numerous statistical categories, including season stroke average (71.7), total rounds (35), rounds of par or better (20), individual victories (3), top-five finishes (5) and top-25 finishes (9).

For the second consecutive season, McClear qualified individually to compete at NCAA Regionals, where he tied for 40th shooting 211 (-5) through 54 holes at Bear’s Best Las Vegas Golf Course. McClear will compete at U.S. Open final qualifying on June 5.
