Hawkeyes Set to Open Fall at Badger Invitational

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens the fall season, traveling to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Badger Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held from Sept. 17-19 at the University Ridge Golf Course (par 72, 6,248-yards). The Hawkeyes will begin the tournament Sunday with a 9 a.m. (CT) tee time.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s season-opening lineup includes: sophomore Madison Dabagia, junior Paula Miranda and sopho- mores Kaitlyn Hanna, Shannyn Vogler and Riley Lewis. Freshman Ximena Benites will compete as an individual.

THE FIELD
The 15-team field includes: Augusta, Colorado State, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico State, North Florida, Rutgers, Sam Houston, South Florida, UC Davis, UTSA, Wisconsin and Yale.
• Eight of the 15 teams rank in the top 100 of the Golfstat team rankings, including South Florida (53), Sam Houston (54), Colorado State (69), Augusta (73), Yale (78), Wisconsin (83), New Mexico State (89) and UTSA (100).

THE COURSE
The University Ridge Golf Course gets its name from its unique landscape that was created by the last retreating glacier. This course has long and wide-open fairways with rolling and well-manicured greens on the front nine while its back nine is framed by tall trees everywhere. The course, which was built by Robert Trent Jones, was the site of the 1998 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship as well as the 1998 NCAA Championships.

A REVIEW: 2022 BADGER INVITE
The Hawkeyes finished 10th at the 2022 Badger Invitational, firing a 54-hole total of 904 (298-304-302). Shannyn Vogler was Iowa’s top finisher, tying for 16th place in her second career tournament with a three- over par 219 (73-72-74).

OUR B1G GOLFERS TO WATCH
Three University of Iowa women’s golfers — sophomores Madison Dabagia and Shannyn Vogler and fresh- man Ximena Benites — have been named to the Big Ten Women’s Golfers to Watch List for the 2023-24 season. Vogler paced the team with a 74.70 scoring average as a true freshman, Dabagia qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur this past summer and Benites was the South American Pre Juvenil champion in 2021.

OF NOTE…
• The Hawkeyes return the top four scoring averages from the 2023-24 season, including sophomore Shan- nyn Vogler (74.70), sophomore Riley Lewis (75.14), junior Paula Miranda (75.75) and sophomore Madison Dabagia (76.31).
• Vogler had a team-best three top-20 finishes, including a winning the medalist honor at the National Golf Invitational to close out the season. The Moline, Illinois, native tied the 54-hole school record with a five-under par 211 (69-71-71) to earn her first career collegiate title.
• Vogler and true freshman Maura Peters were prep teammates at Bettendorf High School.
• Lewis had the two top rounds of the 2022-23 season, firing a five-under par 67 at the UNF Collegiate and a four-under par 68 at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
• Seven of the eight players on the 2023-24 roster are underclassmen. Junior Paula Miranda is the lone upperclassmen for the Hawkeyes.

UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes will head to the Lone Star State on Sept. 25-26, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, for the Texas Tech Invitational.
