2 School Records Busted at Jimmy Grant Alumni Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa University of Iowa seniors Kalen Walker and Paige Magee posted school records during the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational on Saturday at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility.

Walker ran 6.60 in the 60-meter preliminaries to better his previous school record set in 2022. The Eddyville, Iowa, native busted his Hawkeye-best again in the finals, setting the record at 6.59.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Magee ran 8.07 to move from second in the Iowa-all time standings into a tie for first, matching Myreanna Bebe’s time last season.

In total, 11 updates were made to the Iowa all-time top-10 standings, including a 1-2 finish in the 60 meter dash by junior Lia Love (7.28) and sophomore Holly Duax (7.42). Love checks in at second in program history, while Duax improves to fifth all-time.

Magee also ran a personal-best 7.45 in the 60-meter preliminaries, good for seventh in Hawkeye history.

In the 800 meters, junior Rivaldo Marshall made his Hawkeye debut with a 1:47.83 time, ranking fourth all-time and setting a new Hawkeye Indoor Track facility record.

In the pentathlon, freshmen Annie Wirth, Carlee Rochford, and Isabelle Woody took the top three spots. Wirth moves to sixth all-time at Iowa with 3,835 points, while Rochford placed ninth with 3,571 points.

Wirth also jumped 1.76 meters (5’ 9.25”)in the long jump competition, which ties for sixth in program history.

Sophomore Sean Smith set a 21.66 meters (71’ 0.75”) facility record in the weight throw, good for second all-time. Redshirt-freshman Austin Busch finished second with a 19.94 meters (65’ 5”) throw, which ranks 10th all-time.

In the women’s weight throw, senior Alivia Bauer threw 20.12 meters (66’ 0.25”) for a personal best and fifth all-time mark.

Freshman Daniela Martine-Wamokpego rounded out the historic night with a 13.12 meter (43’ 0.5”) triple jump, ranking second on Iowa’s top-10 list.

The Hawkeye men posted eight first-place finishes in the finals, while the Iowa women finished with 12 event victories.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH JOEY WOODY
“Men and women both, I thought, performed really well in all the events, from the jumps, to throws, to multis, and the sprints. I was really pleased with where we were at. This time of year, it is about getting into that competitive atmosphere and seeing how they handle the pressure and stress of being in a college meet.

“Especially at this level, some of them aren’t used to, number one, competing indoors. Some of our freshmen have never competed indoors. Number two, being in this type of environment with this much of a crowd to come watch us. It really shows you what Iowa track and field is all about, and the support we have here in Iowa City. I was excited to see them handle that. I thought they all handled it really well, and they all performed extremely well.”
