4 Hawkeyes Named CSC Academic All-District Honorees

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Four University of Iowa swimmers were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections, it was announced Tuesday.

Olivia Asay, Annie Galvin, Alix O’Brien and Leslie Wendel represented the Hawkeyes with the honor.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must obtain a 3.50 GPA, while completing one full calendar year at their current institution. The nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Eligible individuals are required to have competed in four competitions or finished within the top eight at the conference meet.

Asay, a sophomore from Downers Grove, Illinois, finished her season with a season best of 58.42 in the 100 butterfly at the Big Ten Championships. She was a Dean’s List honoree in the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023. An elementary education major, Asay was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2024.

Galvin, a junior from Ames, Iowa, completed her first year as a Hawkeye with a 22nd-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in the 200 backstroke. Galvin is a marketing and business leadership and management major, while also minoring in political science. Galvin was also a member of the 2023 fall semester Dean’s List.

O’Brien, a native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, scored at the Big Ten Championships, placing 22nd in the 1,650-freestyle event. She was also a part of the 800-freestyle relay team that finished eighth at the National Invitational Championship in Ocala, Florida, in March. O’Brien is a three-time member of the Dean’s List, was a President’s List member in the spring of 2023, a 2024 Academic All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. She is an enterprise leadership major.

Wendel, a business major from Winnetka, Illinois, is a two-time Dean’s List honoree and was named to the 2024 Academic All-Big Ten team. Wendel completed her sophomore campaign with a 58.20 season best in the 100 butterfly at the Big Ten Championships.
