West Takes 5th in Mt. SAC Decathlon

WALNUT, Calif. – University of Iowa decathlete Austin West claimed fifth place overall and second among collegiate competitors with 8,024 points at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday.

The Iowa City, Iowa, native produced his best results in the final two events of the day. In the ninth event, West hurled the javelin 55.63 meters, good for seventh overall. Entering the final event in sixth place, West ran a 4:32.64 in the 1,500 meters. His effort in the 1,500 pushed him above Miami’s Edgar Campre and over the 8,000 point mark.

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes are set to host Senior Day at the Musco Twilight on April 19 and 20 at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track in Coralville, Iowa. Hammer throw kicks off the meet on Friday at 1:00 p.m., before action resumes on Saturday at Noon.
