IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Caitlin Clark (women’s basketball) and Rivaldo Marshall (men’s track and field) were named April’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced.
Clark led Iowa to its second National Championship appearance in as many years. In April, Clark and the Hawkeyes avenged a loss to LSU and beat UConn to reach the championship. In the game against LSU, Clark tied an NCAA Tournament school record with 41 points, while dishing 12 assists and grabbing seven rebounds. In the national semifinal appearance against UConn, the West Des Moines native filled the stat sheet with 21 points, seven assists and nine rebounds. Clark concluded her career as a Hawkeye with 30 points, five assists and eight rebounds in the championship game against South Carolina.
On April 15, Clark was selected by the Indiana Fever as the first overall pick in the WNBA Draft. She is the first ever Hawkeye to be selected as the top overall pick and the fourth Hawkeye to be drafted into the WNBA since 2019.
Marshall set Iowa’s program record in the 800 meters, racing 1:45.86 to win the event at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Arizona. With that time, he reached the Olympic qualifying standard.
