Kresley Wins in Mexico, Magee Advances to Semis

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Paige Magee advanced to the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles, running a 13.41 in the first round at Hayward Field on Friday night.

Magee qualified on time and will compete in the semifinals on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (CT).

Senior sprinter Austin Kresley was the national champion at Mexico’s Olympic Trials in the 100 meters, speeding to a 10.29 finish. The Olympic standard necessary for qualification in the 100 meters is 10.00. Kresley returns to the track on Sunday to compete in the 200 meters.

At the France Olympic Team Trials, Daniela Wamokpego claimed eighth in the triple jump with a 12.94-meter mark.

Iowa alumni had a solid start to the weekend. James Carter Jr. (2023) notched a personal best in the triple jump, placing fourth at 16.61 meters. Carter Jr. advanced to Sunday’s final. Sprinter Brittany Brown cruised in the semifinals of the 200 meters, finishing in a season-best 22.08. Brown will race in tomorrow’s Olympic final for a spot on the national team.

“Paige didn’t have her best race today, but thankfully she made the semifinals. I know she’s excited to perform at a much higher level tomorrow. I’m so excited for Austin, who battled back from some injuries this season, to win the Mexico Championships. He nearly set a national record. He’s in a strong spot heading into the 200 meters on Sunday. James had a tremendous PR jump today in the qualifying round. He is in great position heading into the finals. We are excited for Brittany running a terrific race and punching her ticket to the finals.”
