Kent Records Top-10, Iowa Finishes in Eighth

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Iowa men’s golf sophomore, Noah Kent, recorded his first top-10 finish of the season and was only three shots off of lead. The Hawkeyes were 21-over as a unit and placed in eighth out of 15 squads at the Fighting Irish Classic. Iowa beat No. 20 Duke, RV Washington, Kent State, Indiana, Augusta, Rutgers, and RV Michigan State.

Kent is the first Hawkeye to notch a top-5 this year. He led all players this weekend, going 7-under on par fours and registered a total of 40 pars which was good for fourth for the tourney. He also posted his final two rounds at Warren Course below par this weekend. (69-68)

Junior Gage Messingham recorded the second lowest score for Iowa, at 7-over for the tournament. Messingham leads the Hawkeyes with six total rounds at or below par this year. Freshman Chance Rinkol senior Josh Lundmark both finished the tournament at 13-over which was good 59th place. Lundmark improved his position on the leaderboard by five spots on Monday.

Sophomore Max Tjoa finished 62nd and was 14-over par for the weekend.

THINGS OF NOTE…
– Kent was 7-under on par fours this weekend which was a tournament-best. UCLA’s Omar Morales was second at 3-under par.
– Kent recorded 40 pars which was fourth-best for the tournament.
– Iowa netted 36 birdies which was sixth-best as a team.

“Our performance today was disappointing aside from Noah Kent’s 68. We made too many unforced mistakes and unfortunately not enough birdies to offset those wasted shots. Kent put together a gutty performance against a very strong field.”

The Hawkeyes will travel to Biloxi, Mississippi, to compete in the Fallen Oak Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-21 for its final tournament of the fall.
