Kate Wakenight is in her seventh season as director of operations for the track and field and cross country programs.
The Grosse Pointe, Michigan, native works closely with the Hawkeye track and cross country staff, helping facilitate the day-to-day activities of the program and coordinating all of the track logistics. Wakenight is responsible for arranging all team travel activities, coordinating summer camps, and ordering and supervising equipment for 120 athletes.
Before joining the track and field/cross country staff, Wakenight spent five years working in the event management department for Hawkeye Athletics and a year with Field Hockey as their administrative assistant. During that time, she was involved in all on-field presentations for football games; including the first field-sized American flag presentation, Big Ten Championships, NCAA Championships, 2012 USA Olympic Wrestling Trials, regular season game day operations and supervising managers and interns.
She is a two-time University of Iowa graduate, earning her bachelor’s degree in health & sports studies in 2008 before earning a master’s degree in recreation and sports management in 2012.
