Bio
Owen Cooper is in his first year as the associate director of football video operations for the University of Iowa football program. Cooper is a UI graduate and previously worked in multiple roles with the Hawkeye football program.
As part of his duties, Cooper works in all areas of video coverage of Hawkeye football, including production of coaching analysis videos, coordination of practice and game video coverage, maintaining student-athlete iPads for playbook and film review, breakdown of weekly opponent video and maintaining functionality of staff and position meeting rooms.
In addition, Cooper serves as a liaison between football staff and university IT department, aids recruiting staff with use of evaluation software, manages a full-time assistant video director and oversees full staff of 12 video students and works with football staff to develop electronic playbooks and acquire necessary video resources.
This past year, he held the position of director of football video operations at Northwestern University. Cooper also served as the assistant director of football video for the Missouri football program from 2021-22.
He previously was UI’s assistant director of football video operations from 2022-23, was a student video assistant from 2013-15, and worked as an offensive administrative assistant for tight ends from 2015-16.
Other positions held include serving as a graduate assistant for video/football operations at Northern Illinois University in 2017 and an assistant video analyst for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL in 2020.
Cooper earned his bachelor’s degree in communications studies from the University of Iowa in 2015 and a master’s degree in sports management from Northern Illinois in 2019.
Cooper is a native of Johnston, Iowa. His wife’s name is Margaret Tietjen.
