Iowa sophomore Linas Gaveika (Vilnius, Lithuania) becameIowa’s 11th NCAA Champion with his dominating performance on high bar in the IndividualEvent Finals Sunday afternoon. The finals were held at the Liacouras Center at TempleUniversity.
Gaveika placed first on high bar with a score of 9.712, ahead of Penn State’s Kevin Tanwho came in second with a score of 9.625. Gaveika was also crowned Big Ten Champion onhigh bar earlier this season. He is the Hawkeyes’ first ever NCAA high bar champion andbecomes the first Hawkeye since Don Jackson won the NCAA pommel horse title in 2000 to wina national championship.
Freshman Michael Reavis was also named an all-American with his seventh place finishon high bar (9.025). Reavis placed first in the event during Session I of the NCAA Qualifier andwas runner- up in Saturday’s team finals. Reavis and Gaveika become Iowa’s 13th and 14th all-Americans on high bar.The sixth-ranked Hawkeyes concluded the season with a sixth-place finish in the NCAATeam Championships Saturday evening.
