Hawkeyes Hold Annual Awards Banquet

The Iowa men’s gymnastics team celebrated its 2003 season Friday evening at the team’sannual Dr. C. E. Obermann Awards Banquet held at the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame – Roy G. KarroBuilding.

Sophomore Linas Gaveika was honored with the N.R. Holzaepfel Most Valuable Team Member award. Gaveikaexcelled on the horizontal bar during the 2003 season, winning both the national and Big Ten title. He was named anall-American and selected to the all-Big Ten team. Gaveika also received the award for Highest Competitive STARTVALUE.

Freshman Michael Reavis was honored with the Biggest Contribution award. Reavis was crowned the 2003Winter Cup national champion on vault and received all-American honors on horizontal bar.

Cameron Schick was the recipient of the Dr. C.E. Obermann Outstanding Senior award. Schick was Iowa’snominee for the 2003 Nissen-Emery award and was named to the 2002-03 academic all-Big Ten team with seniorRyan Meeks, junior Matt Metzger and sophomore Kenny Lin.

Metzger received the Academic Excellence award. He was also honored as a 2001-02 academic all-Americanwith Meeks and last year’s seniors Brian Christie, Steve Davis, Don Jackson and Andy Thornton.

Senior Nathan Blair was the recipient of the Coaches Appreciation award and sophomore Jason Dixon receivedthe Most Improved award. Dixon has also been named a 2003-04 tri-captain with Metzger and junior Michael Kelly.
