Libby, May Earn Regional Coaching Honors

Iowa women’s gymnastics assistant coaches Larissa Libby and DerekMay have been named North Central Region Assistant Coaches of the Year by the NationalAssociation of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W). Both have played aninstrumental part in leading the GymHawks to their first-ever NCAA championships appearance.

Libby is in her third season serving as Iowa’s choreographer, beam coach and recruitingcoordinator. Under her direction, the GymHawks have repeatedly broken the school beamrecord. Her recruiting efforts have brought some of the nation’s top classes to Iowa for threeconsecutive seasons and have given the GymHawks national recognition.

May, in his second season as floor and vault coach, has helped guide the GymHawks to arecord season on vault. The 2003 squad has posted the top five vault scores in school history.Iowa has also performed well on floor, recording a season-best 49.3 at the Big Tenchampionships and clinching an NCAA championship berth with a score of 49.275 in its finalrotation at the South Central Regional. May also serves as travel coordinator and handles teamequipment.
