Reavis Qualifies for U.S. Championship

University of Iowa freshman Michael Reavis (Tallahassee, FL)recently qualified for the U.S. Championships with his eighth place overall finish in the Men’sU.S. Championships Qualifier. The event was held at Keen Arena at the University of Michigan.

The qualifier is the only route for athletes not already on the Senior National Team toqualify for the U.S. Championships, and eventually onto the United States National Team. Onlythe top 14 all-around athletes, along with seven others who excelled in individual events,advanced to the Senior Division of the of the Gymnastics Championships. Seventy-sixindividuals competed in the event.

Reavis finished eighth overall in the competition that included four members of the 2002U.S. National Team. He ranked sixth among those competing for the 14 all-around qualifyingpositions and will advance to the United States Championships to be held in Milwaukee, WI,June 19-22 at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

Among the NCAA athletes with eligibility remaining,Reavis finished third to Dan Gill of Stanford and Randy Monahan, the 2003 Big Ten All-AroundChampion from Ohio State. Reavis began the competition with a fifth place finish on floor(9.325) and also placed fifth on high bar (9.3). Jason Gatson, of the U.S. Olympic TrainingCenter, won the Qualifier.
