Iowa Continues Climb in Polls

Sept. 21, 2003

Iowa’s undefeated football team continued its climb in the national polls this week after its convincing victory over nationally ranked Arizona State last Saturday, moving into the No. 9 slot in the weekly ESPN/USA Today Top 25 and up to No. 13 in Associated Press’ list of the nation’s top college football teams.

The Hawkeyes, 4-0 heading into their 2003 Big Ten Conference season opener Saturday against Michigan State in East Lansing, MI, are one of four Big Ten teams included in ESPN’s Top 25 and one of five league teams in the AP’s list.

Iowa opens Big Ten play Saturday at Michigan State. The game will be televised live by ESPN Plus beginning at 11 a.m. Iowa time.

Ohio State ranks fourth in both polls, followed by Iowa (9th), Michigan (10th) and Minnesota (20th) in the ESPN list, and Michigan (11th), Iowa (13th), Purdue (22nd) and Minnesota (24th) in AP’s top 25.

Iowa’s 21-2 victory over Arizona State completed a sweep of the Hawkeyes non-conference schedule in 2003. The Hawkeyes have now won 18 of their last 21 games under Kirk Ferentz.
