Iowa No. 19 in ESPN Poll

Sept. 28, 2003

The Iowa Hawkeyes, victims of a 20-10 loss at Michigan State last Saturday – their first loss of the 2003 season – are ranked 19th in this week’s ESPN / USA Today Top 25 poll for college football.

Iowa is one of five Big Ten Conference teams included in ESPN’s list. Ohio State (3rd), Michigan (11th), Minnesota (16th) and Purdue (23rd) are also included.

Iowa and Michigan square off inside legendary Kinnick Stadium Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (Iowa time). The game is a sellout. It will be televised live by ABC-TV.

Iowa’s next game – Saturday versus Michigan inside a sold out Kinnick Stadium – will feature two nationally ranked teams.

Oklahoma and Miami remained as ESPN’s top two teams. Ohio State replaced Southern California in the No. 3 position after the Trojans were defeated in overtime by California.

Iowa’s game against Michigan is the first of three straight sellouts of Big Ten home games for the 2003 Hawkeyes. A limited number of tickets are available for Iowa’s home season finale against nationally ranked Minnesota. In addition to determining ownership of Floyd of Rosedale — the bronzed pig trophy that is kept by the winning team in the annual Iowa-Minnesota game — that game will also be Iowa Football Fan Appreciation Day.
