IOWA CITY – The Iowa soccer team fell 4-1 against Purdue at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes scored the game’s first goal, but allowed four goals in the remainder of the game.

Iowa scored its first goal in the game’s 16th minute when sophomore Avery Bang was dribbling on the right side of the box. Bang found sophomore Katelyn Quinn streaking down the middle of the box. Quinn then sent a slow roller past Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason to make the score 1-0.

The Boilermakers evened the score at the 29:30 mark when Annette Kent was assisted by Lori Arnold. Purdue took the lead at the 37:59 mark when they scored on a penalty kick by Kim Comisar. The Boilermakers were awarded the penalty kick because Iowa fouled Kent in the box. Iowa senior Nicole Gatens deflected the third Boilermaker goal into the net. On a corner kick, the ball glazed off the side of Gaten’s foot making the score 3-1.

Purdue’s final goal was scored by Crystal Rivas and was assisted by Arnold and Dybvig at the 83:11 mark.

Iowa and Purdue each attempted 13 shots in the contest. Junior Britta Vogele finished the game with four saves.

Iowa will return to competition next Friday when they host Wisconsin at the Iowa Soccer Complex beginning at 7 p.m.
