Leading the Hawkeyes was true freshman Bennet Hammerberg, who finished the tournament with a three-round score of 150 (+6), which tied him for 19th. Hammerberg becomes the second Hawkeye to finish in the top 20 in as many tournaments.

THE ROSTER — Competing for the Hawkeyes this week are true freshmen Jon Feldick, Bennet Hammerberg, Todd Larson, junior Brian deBuhr, and sophomore Robby Storm.

COACH TERRY ANDERSON — Anderson is in his eleventh year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson lettered four times in golf at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. The Iowa Golf Association named him 1998 PGA professional of the year.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “Since the last event, we have sold the thought of shooting par or better during qualifying. We’ve done that in practice and qualifying. Hopefully that will carry over into this tournament, and if it does we should be competitive as a team.”
