Iowa No. 9 in ESPN Poll

Oct. 12, 2003

Iowa’s nationally ranked football team, idle this past Saturday – dubbed “Separation Saturday,” according to some because of the schedule of games played – moved up six places to No. 9 in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Top 25.

Coach Kirk Ferentz’s squad will square off against No. 8 Ohio State Saturday in Columbus, OH, in a game that features last year’s Big Ten Conference co-champions.

Iowa and Ohio State didn’t play last year when both squads posted 8-0 records in league play. This year’s game will be played Saturday in Ohio Stadium and will be televised live by ABC-TV beginning at 2:30 p.m. Iowa time.

The Hawkeyes and Buckeyes both own 5-1 overall records and are 1-1 in league play. The game will be televised live by ABC-TV with kickoff slated for shortly after 2:30 p.m Iowa time.

Oklahoma remained the top team in ESPN’s list. The Sooners are followed by Miami, Virginia Tech, Southern Cal and Georgia.

Iowa and Ohio State are two of seven Big Ten teams included in the top 20 of ESPN’s Top 25. Wisconsin (12th), Purdue (15th), Michigan (17th), Michigan State (18th) and Minnesota (19th).
