Hawkeyes Finish 2nd at Big Four

IOWA CITY, IA — The Iowa men’s golf team finished in second place Monday at the Big Four meet. The event was hosted in Cedar Rapids, IA by the University Of Northern Iowa.

The Hawkeyes struggled during the first round, carding a team total of 300. The Hawkeyes settled down in the final round and put up a score of 275, cutting 25 strokes off their first round showing. The Hawkeyes gained 13 strokes on Iowa State in the final round to end up ahead of the Cyclones, but fell seven strokes short of Drake.

Jonathon Feldick led the squad with a fourth place finish, carding a 73-69=142. Todd Larson was close behind with a 74-70=144. Andy Tiedt scored the low round of the tournament with a 66 after a first round score of 80, bringing his stroke total to 146. Also stepping up in the final round was freshman Bennet Hammerberg, who shaved seven strokes off of his first round 77, to end up with a 147 total, while Luke Miller carded a total of 153.

The Hawkeyes’ pick up play again in the spring, starting with a trip to Huntsville, TX to compete in the Bearkat Invitational on March 14 and 15.
