Betsy Cordt Q&A

Nov. 11, 2003

What is your favorite volleyball-related memory?
“When my high school team went to state during my junior year, it was my absolute favorite memory from high school.”

What was your most embarrassing moment on the court?
“I’ve had a lot of embarrassing moments on the court but what I hate the most is when your hands are slippery with sweat. Then the ball slips through your hands when you set it and hits you right in the head.”

What attracted you to the University of Iowa?
“Both my parents and a lot of my family went to Iowa. Plus I grew up a Hawkeye fan and loving the university.”

What is the best part about being a student-athlete at Iowa?
“The best part would be the girls I’ve met on the team. I don’t know what I’d do without them. They are the greatest.”

Cordt has seen action in 12 games this season.

The toughest part?
“Time management, trying to make sure you have time for practice, class, studying, and free time for yourself.”

When you were little, what did you pretend to be?
“I was a very interesting child. My parents would be the first ones to tell you that. I used to pretend I was a knight. I would run around with a plastic sword and try to fight people including running up to Santa Clause saying ‘on guard Santa!'”

What is your worst fear?
“I hate bees! I stepped on a bee hive when I was little and I’ve been terrified of them ever since.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“Not being so messy. I wish I was really, really clean and organized.”

If you could be a star in any other sport, what would it be and why?
“A gymnast. I love to watch gymnastics because I think it is so cool. I’d be scared half to death about doing all those flips but if I was a star, I would love it.”

What CD in your collection would you consider most embarrassing?
“It would probably be some kind of a musical. I was a big show choir girl in high school, believe it or not. I was also in the school musical.”
