Hawkeyes in Third After Second Day at Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team is in third place after two days of competition at the Purdue Invitational. The Hawkeyes moved up one spot from Friday with a current score of 411.50.

Timo Klami won the three meter diving competition for his second victory of the weekend. Klami posted a score of 547.15 in the preliminary rounds, and 573.90 in the finals.

Iowa placed second and fourth in the 200 Medley Relay. The second place team of Kevin Velleca, Calvin Shelangoski, Tomasz Dziedzic, and Konrad Kazmierczak posted a finals time of 1:30.72 while the fourth place squad of Andrei Ciurca, Andrei Prada, Jason Snider and Alex Boyce finished with a time of 1:32.65.

Trevor Haley came up third in the 400-IM with a time of 4:01.09. The Hawkeyes had five swimmers place in the top ten of the 100-fly. Other big finishes for the Hawkeyes included Kazmierczak in the 200-free, and Shelangoski and Elliot Ptasnik in the 100-breast.

The last day’s preliminary rounds will start Sunday at 12 p.m., and the finals will begin at 7 p.m.
