Houston snapped Iowa’s 11-game Hawkeye Challenge winning streak. Houston also became the first Hawkeye Challenge champions other than Iowa since Washington won the 1997 tournament.Iowa drops to 1-1 in games against Houston.Junior Jennie Lillis scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Her 14 points moved her past Amy Herrig (1995-99) and into eighth in career scoring at Iowa with 1,328 points. She also was 6-6 from the free throw line tonight. Lillis has attempted at least one free throw in 89-of-95 games during her career.Junior Jamie Cavey scored a team-high 18 points (7-9 FG, 4-6 FT) and collected six rebounds. Cavey led the Hawkeyes in scoring in their first two games.Iowa was 5-19 from three-point land against the Cougars. The Hawkeyes have now made at least one three-pointer in 150 consecutive contests. The last time Iowa did not drain at least one three-pointer was against Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament (3/1/98).Houston converted 28 Hawkeye turnovers into 29 points.Houston’s Chandi Jones scored a game-high 34 points (10-29 FG, 10-12 FT). Her 29 field goal attempts tied a Carver-Hawkeye Arena record. Jones tied Iowa’s Franthea Price, who was 12-19 vs. Howard on 11/25/89.
