Iowa moved up one place in each of the weekly Top 25 college football polls while awaiting its invitation to the third straight post-season bowl game under Coach Kirk Ferentz.
The Hawkeyes, 9-3 prior to their 2003-04 bowl game, checked in at No. 11 in this week’s ESPN/USA Today poll, one position better than last week. Iowa ranks behind only Big Ten champion Michigan (4th) and Ohio State (7th) among league teams in the elite list. Purdue and Minnesota are listed behind the Hawkeyes.
Iowa came in at No. 12 in the Associate Press’ Top 25, behind Michigan (4th), Ohio State (8th) and Purdue (11th). Less than 90 points separated the Hawkeyes and Boilermakers. Minnesota was ranked 25th by AP.
Ferentz’s squad appears headed to either the Capital One, Outback or MasterCard Alamo bowl games. It appears possible Iowa will be waiting until the 2004 Bowl Championship Series games are announced officially next Sunday.
Iowa advanced to the FedEx Orange Bowl last year after a brilliant 11-1 regular season. The Hawkeyes under Ferentz also played in the 2002 Alamo Bowl.
