CEDAR FALLS — 100 was a sweet number for the Iowa Hawkeyes Monday night.

Coaching in her 100th game at the University of Iowa, the UI’s Lisa Bluder was rewarded with a hard-fought 76-67 victory over Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The game was also the 100th as a Hawkeye for senior Jennie Lillis, who scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Iowa entertains Kansas State Friday at 7 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa was led in scoring by Kristi Faulkner, who dropped in 17 points. Jamie Cavey added 15, 11 during the final six-plus minutes of the game when the Hawkeyes, who trailed for much of the game, need them most.

Cavey’s jumper tied the game for the fifth and final time at 59-all at the 6:43 mark. Ninety seconds later she gave the Hawkeyes a lead — 61-59 — they never relinquished.

The Hawkeyes’ defense was a key. It limited the home team to just two field goals in the final eight minutes of play. The difference in the game was the charity stripe: Iowa made nine more free throws the Northern Iowa – the difference between victory and defeat.

The win pushed Iowa’s record to 6-2. The Hawkeyes return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday for a 7 p.m. date with nationally ranked Kansas State.
