hawkeyesports.com visited recently with sophomore forward Johanna Solverson from Lake Zurich, IL. Here’s a piece of that conversation.

How would you describe yourself on the court? Off the court?
“On the court I’d have to say that I’m quiet, but I do my talking on the court. Off the court I like to have fun and hang out with friends.”

What is something few people know about you?
“That I’m a pretty good volleyball player.”

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? “I would want to live in Florida because it’s always warm. I like the fact that Floridians don’t have to worry about big changes in temperature.

If you could have any job, what would it be?
“I would want to be a basketball coach because it would be doing something that I love.”

“When I was growing up I pretended to be my older brother when I shot hoops in my driveway, because I looked up to him and he taught me how to play the game of basketball.”

“Will & Grace. It’s a really funny show and the actors and actress are similar to my personality.

What is the best part about being a student-athlete at Iowa? The toughest part?
“The toughest part is time management and talking to people after a difficult loss. The best part is being recognized for doing something that I love doing.”

If you could play one-on-one with anyone past or present, who would it be and why? Would you win?
“Definitely Allen Iverson because he’s my favorite player. Would I win, are you kidding me?”

One of your favorite TV shows is Friends, which character would you want to be if you were on the show and why?
“Phoebe, because she’s an airhead.”

What is your biggest pet peeve?
“I hate it when people don’t say ‘bye’ on the phone.”

If you had the opportunity to play in any arena, which would it be and why?
“The First Union Center in Philadelphia, where the 76ers play.”

When you were growing up, who did you pretend to be while shooting hoops in your driveway? Why?
“My older brother, because I looked up to him and he taught me how to play the game of basketball.”

If you were deserted on an island, which of your teammates would you want with you?
“Tiffany Reedy because she always makes me laugh and does crazy stuff. We always have a good time together.”
