As the University of Iowa’s Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry once said, “It ain’t braggin’ if you done it,” the Iowa football program is sitting with some pretty elite company if one considers the performances of the nation’s college football teams over the past two seasons.
Iowa is one of just 14 NCAA Division I-A football teams to have registered 20 or more total victories over the 2002 and 2003 campaigns. Coach Kirk Ferentz’s squad, 37-17 winners of the 2004 Outback Bowl, have won 21 of their last 26 games — a total that ranks eighth best with Texas Christian, Maryland, Texas, and 2004 Bowl Championship Series national champion Lousiana State.

Ohio State and Boise State share the top spot with 25 victories in 27 games. Georgia and Oklahoma are next best with 24 victories in 28 games. Miami and Southern Cal — the 2004 Associated Press national champion — have won 23 of their last 26 games while Kansas State has won 22 games but has lost six — the most games lost by teams with 20 or more wins in the last two seasons.
Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan — winners of 20 of their last 26 games — are the only Big Ten teams with 20 or more total victories during the past two seasons.
