hawkeyesports.com visited recently with senior forward Becca McCann from Saginaw, Michigan. Here’s a piece of that conversation.

What are your plans after you graduate?
“I won’t graduate until next December. I might go home for a couple of months and hang out with my family and relax. I might help out with my mom and sister as both of them teach to gain a little experience for myself.”

Your favorite actor is Sylvestor Stallone. Are you excited that they are going to make another Rocky movie?
“We saw his house in Florida over Thanksgiving. I am so upset about the movie. They should have stopped at four because I wasn’t a big fan of five. Rocky was hurt in Rocky V and he can’t be hurt because he is a hero, so I didn’t like it. Of course, I will go and watch it. Rocky movies are a big deal in our family because we watched them every year when I was growing up.”

What were the circumstances surrounding your meeting Isiah Thomas and Grant Hill?
“Grant Hill, I was on the Detroit Free-Press all-State team my junior year. For the banquet, we were at the Palace of Auburn Hills and we got to go to one of their practices and we got to take pictures with him. In meeting Isiah Thomas, when I was the editor of our newspaper, we did a conference at a university in our hometown. He was there speaking, so I got to meet him through the writing conference.”

“Accomplishment and challenge is what inspires me. I like to have something out there that you are working for constantly. I think a lot of people like the feeling of success when you accomplish something and knowing that there is something that you can start going after again.”

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“Italy – We were there for a couple of weeks. I would like to spend a little more time traveling around because we did it so quick. I would like to go through a few of the towns that we didn’t get to go through. I might go there this summer with my sister for a couple of weeks.”

What is your passion or what inspires you in life?
“Accomplishment and challenge – I like to have something out there that you are working for constantly. I think a lot of people like the feeling of success when you accomplish something and knowing that there is something that you can start going after again.”

When your career at Iowa is completed, how do you want Hawkeye fans to remember you?
“Someone that haves fun and enjoys what she is doing. Even when things get hard, I just try to smile because it helps me relax. I hope they remember me as a good person and a hard worker.”

How grateful are you that your dad is able and willing to travel to almost all your games?
“I’m very grateful! I have gotten so used to him being at all my games that when he’s not there, for some reason, it’s hard because I don’t see him in the stands. It was weird not to see him when we played games in Italy last summer. I’m also grateful that my mom has found a flight on Sundays and will be able to come to more of my games.”

What is your biggest pet peeve?
“When people chew with their mouth open or smack their gum.”

If you could guest star in any television show (past or present), which would it be and why?
“Will & Grace because they’re hilarious and they would be great people to work with. I know when I find a job I want to work with fun people that smile and have a good time.”

When you were little what did you pretend to be?
“I was always the teacher who had her own class and I had my own store. I would put price tags on every thing in the house and made my family go shopping.”
