hawkeyesports.com visited recently with sophomore forward Morgan Kasperek from Hinsdale, IL. Here’s a piece of that conversation.
What was your most embarrassing moment on the court?
“Probably my senior year of high school when I got a technical. The game was tied and there were like two seconds left. (Why did you get the technical?) Because I said, ‘Are you kidding me’ to the referee.”
How would you describe yourself on the court? Off the court?
“Off the court, I would say I am outgoing, energetic and I like to joke around. On the court I would say I’m energetic and a hard worker.”
When did you start playing basketball?
“I was in third grade.”
What is the best part about being a student-athlete at Iowa? The toughest part?
“The best part is definitely the relationships you build with friends. You also get extra help from the learning center. The toughest part is probably managing your social life. You have to play basketball and do well in school, but you have to make time for yourself as well.”

What is your worst fear?
“Getting the opportunity to do something and not being able to achieve it. Then having to live with the regret of not achieving what you set out to accomplish.”
What is something that few people know about you?
“I used to live in Des Moines.”
What is your biggest pet peeve?
“When people have stuff on their hands and they wipe it off on my clothes.”
What activities/hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time or in the off-season?
“I like to read books, shop, hang out with friends and have fun.”
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Any advice that Matt Weitzel (our SID) gives me is the words I try to live by.”
Describe the perfect day. What would you do?
“I would be in Hawaii or the Caribbean or anyplace that has a tropical climate. I would get up, eat a solid breakfast, win a basketball game, hang out on the beach the remainder of the day and then hit the town with my friends.”
If you could trade places for a day with anyone, who would it be and why?
“I would want to trade places with Bill Gates so he could give me all of his money.”
If you could play in any basketball arena in the world, where would it be and why?
“I would like to play in the United Center more than anywhere. I think playing in the same arena that Michael Jordan played during his prime with the Chicago Bulls would be awesome.”
