hawkeyesports.com visited recently with junior guard Jenna Armstrong from Stockton, MO. Here’s a piece of that conversation.

Since you are a St. Louis Cardinals fan, do you get in any spats with all the Cubs fans on the team? How did you handle the Cubs success in beating your Cards last season?
“Well, I remain true as a Cardinals fan, but who didn’t jump on the Cubs ‘bandwagon’ last year? I wanted to see the Cubs put an end to their curse.”

You list John Cusak as your favorite actor, what is your all-time favorite Cusak movie and why?
“Say Anything. The scene where he holds the boom-box over his head is the greatest scene of all time.”

If you could play at any arena in the world, where would you want to play and why?
“Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Where else? We practice here everyday.”

“One time in seventh grade I set an amazing screen for my teammate – it sent the other person to the floor. Unfortunately, the person I screened was the referee.”

If you were given the ultimate pro sports experience, what would it be and why?
“This may sound crazy, but winning a PGA golf tournament. Maybe that’s just a dream, because no matter how much I like golf I’m still bad!”

What is the greatest memory you have as a Hawkeye?
“Every road win is a great memory, especially when there is great displays of clapping and dancing in the locker room after the game.”

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“To calm down. I’ve given myself ulcers from being so stressed out.”

What is the best thing about Iowa City? The worst thing?
“The best thing is the down town area. I love the little shops and I drink a lot of coffee, so I fit right in. The worst thing would have to be the cold weather.”

What activities do you like to do in your spare time and in the off-season?
“I just like to hang out with my friends or watch movies, if I can take a break from studying. Also, I’ve been known to be a great dancer in my day, especially to techno music, ha ha.”

What is something that you cannot imagine life without?
“A blow dryer… oh, and maybe shoes.”

What is your most embarrassing moment on the court?
“One time in seventh grade I set an amazing screen for my teammate – it sent the other person to the floor. Unfortunately, the person I screened was the referee.”

If you were a superhero, what type of superpower would you want as your trademark?
“I would be able to transport myself anywhere I wanted at the clap of my hands. That way, I could travel anywhere. Oh yes, and I would want X-ray vision, of course.”
