Iowa in Eighth After Day One of Big Ten's

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The University of Iowa men’s swimming team is currently in 8th place at the Big Ten Championships. The Hawkeyes compiled 59 team points after the first day of competition. Minnesota is leading the competition after posting a score of 207.5.

Iowa’s highest finish came in the 1 meter diving competition. Junior Timo Klami topped his performance of tenth in last season’s Big Ten Championships after posting a final round score of 329.10, good enough for a third place finish. Junior Pete Ranstead was the only other Hawkeye to qualify for the finals in an individual event. Ranstead’s preliminary time of 20.35 in the 50 freestyle set him up for a 16th place finish.

Competition in West Lafayette will continue tomorrow, starting with preliminaries at noon and finals at 7 p.m.
