Iowa Finishes Fourth in Arizona

RIO VERDE, AZ – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 36-hole total of 610 to finish the 17-team East/West Rio Verde Invitational in fourth place. Kent State took the team title with a two-round score of 604.

Leading the way for the Hawkeyes, tied for eighth place, was freshman Karla Murra. Murra fired a two-round total of 145. One shot behind was junior Liz Bennett who tied for 12th place. Junior Shannon Fleming carded a 157, which placed her tied for 31st. Seniors Laura Holmes and Jennifer Reints both shot 159, which was good enough to place them tied for 39th. Freshman Jessica Ellis placed 90th with a score of 173.

Kent State’s Gabby Wedding won the individual title with a 36-hole total of 145. One shot behind in second place was Linda Svensson of Arkansas-Little Rock.

The Hawkeyes will continue competition on March 15-16 at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shoot-out in Boerne, TX.
