March 8, 2004

Iowa City, IA – THIS WEEK — The Iowa men’s golf team will travel to Huntsville, TX this weekend to compete in the 16-team Bearkat Invitational. Sam Houston State University is hosting the event at the 6,943 yard, par 71, Raven Nest Golf Club. The first two rounds will be held Sunday, with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. Monday’s final round tee times will also start at 7:45 a.m.

SPRING BREAK — The Hawkeyes will be spending their spring break in Houston, TX, practicing before returning home. Next Tuesday, Iowa will play the par 71 Cypress Creek course at Champions Golf Club. The Hawkeyes will spend the rest of their spring break practicing at Houston’s Lakeside Country Club.

THE ROSTER — Competing for the Hawkeyes this week are true freshmen Jon Feldick, Bennet Hammerberg and Todd Larson, sophomore Andy Tiedt and senior Cade Pleggenkuhle. Feldick, Hammerberg, and Larson are the top three competitors from fall action.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “I’m hoping for the best. Several guys have been playing over break, the recent warm weather has given us a chance to hit some balls. The difficult thing is not having played competitively since October, but we’re itching and ready to go. We’ve met every day and talked about how we want to approach this tournament. In order to be competitive as individuals and as a team, we need to play in a conservative fashion, hitting shots we know we can hit, not trying to pull off too much. Just simple, boring golf.”

COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 11th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson lettered four times in golf at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. The Iowa Golf Association named him 1998 PGA Professional of the Year.
