Matt Neubauer to Leave University of Iowa

April 2, 2004

Junior defensive end Matt Neubauer announced today that he is leaving the Iowa University of Iowa and Hawkeye football team.

“I have enjoyed my relationship with the Iowa Football team over the past several years,” said Neubauer. “I have, however, struggled over the past year to find an academic field that interests me and as a result I have made the decision to withdraw from school. I am appreciative of the opportunity I have been given and I wish the team continued success.”

The native of Iowa Falls, played in 23 career games, collecting 26 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks. He played in 12 games last season, ranking 14th on the team in total tackles (25) and seventh in tackles for loss (5.0). Neubauer registered a career-high six tackles in Iowa’s victory over Buffalo on Sept. 6.

“We were all sorry to learn of Matt’s decision,” commented Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz. “Matt is a good person and was a valued team member. We wish him all of the best.”
