IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa men’s track program has added another signee to its 2004 recruiting class. Head Coach Larry Wieczorek announced that Matt Gorman, of Gainesville, FL, will enroll this fall.

Gorman won the long jump at the 2004 Florida state meet, and placed second in the triple and high jumps to lead Buchholz High School to the team title. His best marks are 6-6 in the high jump, 24-1 in the long jump and 50-2 in the triple jump.

“Matt is an outstanding and nationally-ranked jumper,” said Wieczorek. “We are very excited to add him to our field event program. He gives us an outstanding jumper to build around, and we look for him to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Gorman joins earlier signees Kale Katt, of Scott City, KS, and Eric MacTaggart, of Glen Ellyn, IL. Katt won state titles in the shot put (57-5 1/4) and javelin (197-1) at the 2003 state meet. He also placed fourth in the discus and ninth in the 100 meters for Scott City High School. Katt is ranked in the top 10 nationally in the javelin. MacTaggart was a 2003 state qualifier in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, placing fourth in the 3,200 meters. He placed fifth at the 2002 state cross country meet, helping Glenbard South High School to a team title. His best times are 4:17 in the 1,600 meters and 9:10 in the 3,200 meters.
