Hamilton and Kemeny Finish Strong

June 25, 2004

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa throwers Ken Kemeny and Adam Hamilton recently completed outstanding seasons with the Hawkeye men’s track team.

Kemeny threw a collegiate-best 62-1 3/4 in the shot put at the Big Ten Championships, which meets the “B” qualifying standard for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team trials. The top 24 shot putters in the nation will be selected for the team trials, held July 9-18 in Sacramento, CA. Kemeny will find out July 1 if he will be part of that elite group. The junior from Palatine, IL, won the shot put at the Drake Relays with a throw of 59-11 1/4.

Hamilton placed 10th in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning all-America status because he was the eighth American to place in that event. The sophomore from Milford, NH, becomes the fourth all-American for Iowa’s throws program in the last five years. Iowa’s other throws all-Americans in the past five years were Bill Neumann (javelin – 2002, 2003), Jim Costello (weight throw – 2003, hammer throw – 2003) and Jeremy Allen (discus – 2001, shot put – 2000, 2001, weight throw – 2000).
