IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa women’s track Head Coach James Grant has announced the addition of three recruits to the Hawkeye program. Racheal Marchand, Laura Pearson and Tammilee Kerr will join the team for the 2004-05 school year.
Marchand, a Valparaiso, IN, native is one of the premier distance runners in the nation. The all-American placed 10th at the 2003 Footlocker National Cross Country Championships and earned multiple all-state and all-conference honors in cross country and track at Valparaiso High School. Her personal bests are 2:15 in the 800 meters and 10:45 in the 3,200 meters.
Pearson, from Schamburg, IL, is one of the top prep distance runners from Illinois. She posted several all-state performances in cross country and track, and brings personal bests of 2:16 in the 800 meters, 5:05 in the 1,600 meters and 10:57 in the 3,200 meters. Pearson competed at Schaumburg High School.
Kerr, from Saint Catherine’s, Jamaica, will continue the rich tradition of Jamaican student-athletes competing at the University of Iowa. She is extremely versatile athlete with personal bests of 4,810 points in the heptathlon and 143-2 in the javelin. Kerr attended Wolmer’s Girl’s High School.
“All three young ladies are quality student-athletes who can contribute immediately to our program,” said Grant. “They add quality depth and will be key members of our team for many years. Their versatility is a real bonus. These three are the final pieces to one of the best recruiting classes in school history.”
Marchand, Pearson, and Kerr join Kineke Alexander, Meghan Armstrong, Lisa Bonistalli, Shirlene Duncan, Natalie Dyke, Jenni Elbert, Molly Esche, Ashley Granger, Kaitie Johnson, Jessica Schmidt, who committed earlier this year.
