Hawkeyes Take Sixth in National Academic Championship

The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team placed sixth in the National Academic Team Championship, the College Gymnastics Association announced today. The Hawkeyes’ grade point average of 3.02 was sixth-best in the nation.

Three Hawkeyes also gained individual recognition as College Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athletes. Matt Metzger, Jack Bouchard and Bryan Bourland all received the honors. Metzger was an all-America selection for the fourth-consecutive year with a 3.999 GPA. Bouchard was honored after earning a 3.72 GPA, while Bourland earned all-America status with a 3.503 GPA.

Iowa was 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten last season, and advanced to the NCAA Qualifier in Champaign, IL, where the Hawkeyes placed fourth.
