Freshman Linebacker Will Not Join Iowa Football Team

Aug. 19, 2004

Kyle Williams, a prep linebacker from Bolingbrook, IL, will not be a member of the Iowa football program during the 2004 season. The announcement was made Thursday by Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.

“Kyle Williams will not be with the Iowa football team this fall,” said Ferentz. “Kyle has reported that he has fallen short of the required test score and at this point he plans to attend a prep school this fall. We are hopeful that things work out well for Kyle and we can welcome him back into our program in the near future.”

Williams signed a national letter of intent in February. As a prep senior the 6-2, 220-pound Williams earned first team all-America honors from Parade, Rivals.com and Insiders.com. He earned first team all-state recognition as a junior and senior.

The Hawkeyes will hold a free, public scrimmage Saturday in Kinnick Stadium. Gates open at 9:30 a.m., with the scrimmage set to begin at 11 a.m. Iowa opens the season Saturday, September 4, hosting Kent State at 11:10 a.m.
