IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team was unable to compete in their season opener against Southwest Missouri State on Friday due to severe storms in the area. Heavy lightning, wind and rain were present during warm-ups and after a two and a half hour delay, officials finally made the decision to cancel the game.
This was to be the first meeting between the two schools and due to scheduling conflicts, the game will not be rescheduled.
The Hawkeyes travel to Missouri next weekend to compete in the Nike Tiger Invitational. Iowa will face Baylor on Friday, September 3 and host school Missouri on Sunday, September 5. The Hawkeyes home opener will now be against UW-Green Bay on September 12 at 1:00 p.m.
