Meet Kate Krause Prange

Kate Krause Pange’s store Shop Girl located in Lincoln Park, Chicago came on the scene in September 2000 and immediately took to the fast track. Since opening Shop Girl, Prange has received many accolades for the style she brings to the Midwest, including having been named “Style Maker and Rule Breaker” by Fashion Group International which also recognized Shop Girl as “favorite new store.”

Prange’s eye for style has been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, on the TLC Channel hit show “Makeover Story” for which Prange is a fashion stylist, and will make its big screen debut with the upcoming release of “Oceans 12” in which Kate outfitted members of the cast.

Shop Girl was named Chicagoland’s “Number One Women’s Boutique” by FOX News, and Prange’s world wide web site, shopgirlchicago.com has recently been coined as one of the top five fashion sites by People magazine.

With the local buzz quickly spreading nationwide, Kate has dressed A-list celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow and Courtney Cox to name a few. In 2002 Prange opened Swell Chic Maternity as a solution to her pregnant Shop Girl customers who wanted to continue to look fabulous and fashionable while expecting. Kate also launched her own maternity line last spring – Kate Krause Prange, which can be found on the world wide web at swellmaternity.com as in many stores across the United States. Her next project is opening a new Swell store in Chicago and a teen/junior boutique called “Spoiled…but not rotten.”

Kate and the University of Iowa
Kate attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1989 from the Home Economics department with an emphasis in business. At the University of Iowa Kate developed her fashion design skills by releasing her first prototype jean. She also has a BA from the International Academy of Design in Interior Design. Prange was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Kate’s husband, David graduated from the University of Iowa in 1988.

Kate and David have four children: daughters Ellen, Amelia, Maeve and son David.
