Des Moines, IA – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team suffered its third loss of the season on Friday, falling to in-state rival Drake, 1-0. The Hawkeyes were out-shot 14-5.
Drake opened up the scoring in the 7th minute when Sinead Brown chipped in a goal off a cross from Elise Rau. The Hawkeyes almost knocked in the equalizer in the 23rd minute when Julie Hickman headed a ball on goal, but Drake goalkeeper Kate Stack made the save. Avery Bang blasted a shot on goal from deep in the Drake zone late in the second half that sailed just high.
Senior Britta Vogele once again was strong in net for the Hawkeyes, recording eight saves. Hickman led the way with three shots on the night while Whitney Strain also recorded a shot.
The Hawkeyes return home to face UW-Green Bay on Sunday at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
