Hawkeyes Fall to No. 16 Michigan, 4-0

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team suffered a tough defeat against the 16th ranked Michigan Wolverines, 4-0 on Sunday. Michigan blasted 24 shots, 14 of which were on goal.

Iowa stuck with the Wolverines for 45 minutes, entering halftime tied 0-0. Michigan’s first goal came in the 56th minute when Jamie Artsis knocked in a goal after Britta Vogele made a save on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Artsis went on to record a hat trick against the Hawkeyes.

Iowa recorded only two shots on goal, one of which came late in the second period. Freshman Katie Mulvahill fired a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box but Michigan goalkeeper Megan Turra made an excellent save en route to the shutout. Britta Vogele recorded nine saves in the loss for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes travel to Illinois next weekend to face Northwestern. Iowa is scheduled for a 4 p.m. match against the Wildcats on Friday, October 1.
