Vogele Nominated For Sportsmanship Award

Nov. 3, 2004

Park Ridge, IL – The Big Ten office announced today that Hawkeye goalkeeper Britta Vogele has been chosen as one of Iowa’s representatives for the Big Ten Conference Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. The nominees are chosen based on their academic standing and their attitude on and off the playing field.

Each Big Ten school nominates a student-athlete for the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award in each sponsored sport. Schools will then choose one male and one female student-athlete from the list of nominees to be honored as Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners. In addition, the Big Ten Conference will select one male and one female student-athlete from the 22 winners as the conference nominees for the NCAA Sportsmanship Awards. This is the first year the Big Ten has handed out this award.

Vogele is a four-year letterwinner for the Hawkeyes and started all but four games in her career. She holds five school records and led the Big Ten in saves and saves per game two years in a row. Vogele was also named team captain the past two years.
